The profile interview was fun it gave me a great chance to get to know Renita and take a glimpse of her world. I thoroughly enjoyed working with her. We have quite a few things in common. We both are born in May and we both are Geminis. What a way to a great start.  Before this assignment I thought that she was very quiet. I never heard her talk much in class but then again neither do I. We were able to work together as a great team to get the assignment together. She actually has a lot to say! She is very unique and friendly.  Renita is very goal oriented and plans to go major in psychology. Her future plans are to plan Old Dominion University. She loves to write music, sing, dance and do hair also she is an entertainer. She is from Connecticut and has lived in Richmond for a few years.

I enjoyed writing the Literacy Narrative, it brought back so many fond memories. It made me miss my stepfather so much. My siblings and I learned a lot from him. To me the hardest part of the narrative was piecing all my thoughts together. I was somewhat bashful of working in groups letting my classmates read what I wrote. When it comes to reading and speaking in front of others I get nervous. Its like all eyes on me. My words get mumbled up when that happens. After I put my fear to the side I really enjoyed thinking back about the old times and sharing it with my class mates.  I thought it would be a little hard participating with my classmates to do peer revision and give me there opinions. It turned out to be very fun and helpful. The last time that I did peer revision it was in high school. I would like to do that again. Mainly because everyone is different and there thoughts are different. Everyone in my group gave great insight and there corrections and opinions helped me bring the Narrative together.

My professor and my classmates did tell me that I needed to stay on one topic. My rough draft wasn’t in chronology order. Also I had a lot of fragments. One of my peers told me that it made it a bit harder to follow along with the Narrative not being in order.  Which made me think a little harder because all the topics that I talked about were things that helped me and where I began with Literacy. I didn’t really follow traditional way of the brainstorming process, I just wrote as the thoughts came to my head. The revising from my professor and peers helped a lot. Overall it was a great assignment.

My first encounter with literacy that I can remember was when I was about three my mother and step father would make me flash cards to learn different words. I was able to read and write short sentences I before I started school. When I was about six my mother purchased a product called hooked on phonics. We couldn't watch television during the weekday and we had to read a book everyday. Mother would always order me books from the book fairs. I can remember being in the second grade and my first favorite chapter book became Mr. Poppers Penguin.
My father was and educator for forty years he taught at the Hanover Corrections Center. My Step Mother is and educator as well she makes lesson plans different schools.  I have always loved reading and writing. My writing hasn't always been as formal. Mostly for school or business affairs is when I have used formal writing. When I was in the third grade my school had the privilege of every student being able to publish there own poetry book. We were able to illustrate our poems. My illustrations were horrible. After I got to middle school my reading material changed if I read a few pages and it didn't appeal to me I stopped reading. I hate that I have let myself down with continuing to educate myself through the Literacy. To become more fluent with using different vocabulary. Being that has always been apart of my home as a child growing up.
As long as I can remember I have kept a journal/diary. I have always wrote poetry as I have read so many poems and different poets material I have always wished I was better at writing. But for me when I write I write to relieve stress to talk about so many things that I cant say verbally. Its so special to me to see my daughter have a love for writing short stories, poems, short plays.
As technology has taken over especially with the auto correct I have found myself forgetting how to spell words or writing using a lot of slang. I find myself sometimes using slang when I talk.
